Digital Photography Unit 1

Task 1

http://rockin-photogs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/camera-lens.jpgThere are different key elements on a camera which is essential as it enables the camera to work properly and sufficiently as possible. These key parts are; the lens, aperture, electronic sensor, shutter release, data display and viewfinder.

Firstly the lens can be used not just for a camera but it can be used also for a telescope or for a microscope although they are different as there are different types of lens. The camera lens is manufactured with glass and elements. Its role in the camera is to focus on to the picture which is then digitally censored and then saved in storage.  There are two types of camera modes to us this on, manual or automatic.

http://www.howtostartphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/auto-vs-manual-lightin.jpgThe benefits  of manual mode is that you can adjust any of the settings to how you want it and not relying on how the camera default has set it out for you already. This could be adjusting the lightings in the image taken for example a dimmer background and a brighter focus on centre image. Or another example controlling the depth of field when taking a shot of a landscape. A huge advantage is that these type of camera tend to be much cheaper than the automatic. Using manual mode also gets you access to more of the setting on the camera for example if you change settings you won’t have to leave your lens. Lastly using manual mode will help you improve using a camera and build your self-esteem rather than an automatic that assist you.

The drawbacks of manual mode is that firstly as much as you think it could build your confidence, it could really lower your confidence as it is very difficult to use. The possibility of missing shot increases if you’re amateur.

Automatic mode is never a bad thing to use mainly as you are allowing the camera to assist you on using it which decreases the possibility of mistakes when taking photos. This mode also allows you to concentrate on what target your taking a photo of meaning you wont to tweak or adjust things such as lightning.

http://dsutech.co.uk/file/smartphone-collection.jpgSmartphone camera are very useful as there are many benefits that come with it. It is portable and easy to access, it is also cheap and affordable where as a buying a camera can be very expensive so just getting a normal smartphone can be good enough. However the quality is not as good as a proper camera.

Viewfinder (screen)- This is the screen that the photographer views and focuses the target.

Lens (functions, types)-  This piece of mechanisms creates a piece of photography which can also be stored.

Image sensor- Deals with information about an information.

Aperture- This is a small hole which lights go through

Shutter-There are two different types of shutter that fits into different parts of the camera.

Memory card- Where information and saved data is stored.

Flash- lighting used to illuminate the darkness surrounded around the setting.

Exposure- The amount of light per unit.

Colour- Showing the contrast of an image

Support of Camera

Handheld is a method, of filmmaking and is very useful as you get the freedom of motion as you will be moving around. It is also very common. The majority of professional cameras are designed to be handheld.

Tripod is another method that supports the camera by keeping it still decreasing its flexibility. This has 3 stands, this supports weight and maintains the stability.

File storage

This is the data of the camera stored in a memory card. It could also be stored in a jpeg .
